One thing that I noticed at many of them is the distinctive kiwi and/or aussie accents of many of the employees. This adds a worldly feel to ski resorts and an added dimension to holidays by exposing you to something you may not experience every day. This may not be the case for very much longer, however, due to changes to immigration policy in the United States....
Full article Wed, 6 Aug 2008 11:47:51 http://www.vociferousvoid.org/story.html?StoryID=2708200179 Gap-per or Gey-per? - The Origins of the One-Piece Acolyte http://www.vociferousvoid.org/story.html?StoryID=2708200178 Late in the season, a common pastime among snowboarders is the infamous gaper hunt. After witnessing this activity in various places, I've been struggling with a very important question: what is the proper pronunciation of the word “gaper”. I had been meaning to write a review to share my thoughts about it for quite some time, however, I forgot which board I actually rode which made it difficult to provide an accurate review. Fortunately my friend Shay had a picture of it and managed to identify it. With this knowledge in hand, I can now share with you my Signal Snowboarding experience....
Full article Wed, 30 Jul 2008 12:34:18 http://www.vociferousvoid.org/story.html?StoryID=2708200177 Environmental Resorts - Where Even the Black Runs are Green http://www.vociferousvoid.org/story.html?StoryID=2708200175 In recent times, climate change has come to the forefront of the collective consciousness. Thanks to people such as Al Gore, the general population is more aware than ever of its environmental footprint. This is evident when you flip open snowboarding magazines which cover the subject more and more. Granted, snow sports enthusiasts, and thus snowboarders, have a particular interest in preventing changes in climate (especially with regards to warming trends or changes in precipitation; we like cold and we like snow). I've already written about what snowboarders can do individually to lessen their impact via their purchasing power. There's one thing, however, that affects all snowboarders regardless of brand allegiance and that is that all of us need a place to ride. So what are the resorts doing to help us keep winters cool?...
Full article Thu, 24 Jul 2008 12:21:19 http://www.vociferousvoid.org/story.html?StoryID=2708200175
